Our current books are listed on our website in our "Books" section. We pick the books a month in advance of reading them, so two months of books are listed each month.
We are constantly inviting more authors to come to signings with us. The authors who have accepted and arranged a solid date are listed on our Events Calendar. To make it easier to find them, you can click on the "Signings" report link beneath the calendar for a list of upcoming signings, arranged by month.
We use a lot of different methods to find out about releases. Publishers often have release email lists that you can join if you know you like a particular imprint that specializes in the books you like. Author web sites are a great place to find release information, often as soon as they author knows a date, their site has the information. Another great resource is your local bookstore; they might have a web site or email group that will tell you about new releases, or they might have a notification area inside the store to promote new books.
We also use genre-specific periodicals like Romantic Times Magazine (RT) to find out about upcoming releases.
We are lucky enough to have a very accomodating bookstore; Borders not only special orders books for us and allows us to host book signings, but they also have a large Romance and Paranormal Romance section. (We're pretty fond of their Cafe, too.)
If you're not sure where your local book store is, Book Sense provides a search funtions to locate local independent bookstores in the USA by zip code. If you aren't lucky enough to have a local bookstore, there are a number of on-line retailers who will ship books anywhere in the USA or the world.
Some of our favorites are; Borders Stores Online, Amazon.com (and Amazon, UK for our friends over the pond), Barnes and Noble, and Powells.
We undergo a hightly scientific and rigorous testing process... no, really, one of our members researches the books that are being released in or by a given month, keeping a careful eye out for books by authors we've enjoyed in the past, and then everyone at the monthly meeting looks at the book. We read the reviews or blubs gathered by our researcher, check out the description of how "hot" the book is, and then look at the physical books if they're in the store already. Once everyone has had a chance to examine the books, and to read or discuss the research, we vote on the books. Our Fearless Leader picks one books, and the book with the highest group vote is picked as the second. Sometimes an alternate book is chosen, as well.
We try to stay away from books that are part of a series that we haven't read yet; we'd much rather start a new series at the beginning than try to play catch-up to understand what's going on. We tend to pick books that fit the group's mood; something that has a theme or style that we've enjoyed in the past. We also tend to pick steamier books, and have been known to choose one book over another because it sounded hotter.
We are a picky bunch, and appreciate a well developed, articulate plot with a good pace and readability. This is fantasy for a reason, afterall.
We're a pretty vocal bunch; and are not afraid to say what we liked and what we didn't. If you want the full story on a book, ask in our Forum. If you just want a quick overview without any spoilers, read the Archive section for our thoughts on books we've read in the past.
